The People of Freedom of the press

Freedom House presents its report on press freedom. Italy ruled by the "People of Freedom," is relegated to the status of the country "partly free". We are unique in Europe and the last to retreat from Western countries.

"Press freedom declines globally in ogni regione.

Si posiziona dunque abbondantemente dietro la Polonia e la Slovenia (49°), il Ghana and Papua New Guinea (53 °), the Cape Verde Islands (60 °), Chile and Greece (63 °). E 'on a par with the Tonga Islands (73 °), and just ahead of Bulgaria (76th), Botswana, East Timor and Montenegro (78 °). Surpasses, in Europe, only the Balkan countries and former Soviet Union: Croatia (81 °), Serbia (83 °), Romania (92 °), Macedonia (98th), Albania (101 °), the 'Ukraine (115 °), Moldova (148 °), Russia (174 °) and Belarus (188 °). Rounding out the ranking North Korea (195 °) and Cuba, accompanied by our ex-colonies, Libya and Eritrea (190th).

"Italy - says the report - has slipped into the category of countries 'partly free' for the increased use of courts and libel laws in order to limit the freedom of speech, increased physical intimidation and extralegal Journalists, both by organized crime that the right-wing groups, and finally to the concerns relating to ownership and influence on the media. The return of media mogul Silvio Berlusconi at the head of the government has revived fears for the concentration of public and private funds in the hands of a single master. " It's not really the first time, in the ranking by Freedom House, Italy lost its status as a country free (unlike refers Republic) had already happened in 2004, during the second Berlusconi government. The situation was then returned to improve in 2007, with the Prodi government, while it fell again after the elections of 2008 (the evolution is shown in a collection of historical maps ). If this shows that the main problem is the fact that Berlusconi, however, should not suggest that the left is free from any complicity in proprosito enough to remember what Luciano Violante said in his famous speech the House in 2003.

Let's see how the free press has reacted to the news of non-freedom di stampa. It seems clear, however, a willingness to Ferruccio De Bortoli, on behalf of banks, to distance itself from the image of an Italy based on the alliance between international mobsters, fascists, and manipulation of the media: image, with the beginning of the Obama must have ceased to be useful to businesses. At 14:21

the news comes on the blog of Beppe Grillo , and wakes up around 15:30 Republic, with an article by Rosaria Amato, whose imperative seems to be: less dramatic. Clearly addicted to prudence required by the scheme, the author begins this way: "A free press is shrinking around the world, and Italy is not exempt from this form of degradation. "Ah yes, the big news was this: the world goes wrong, you can not expect to get better in Italy. Fortunately the editors leave to take a leap of courage and title: "Press, Freedom House downgrade Italy. It is no longer a fully free country, "placing the news in third place after May 1. In the Courier news is still in 11th position
, without comment (after the crime and traffic jams on the highway of Garlasco). there is no trace of the Fiat Group in La Stampa newspaper or on the course by the Berlusconi family.

Only in the evening Unit leaves a piece, I would say honest but not brilliant, and distinguished by the fact noted in closing the criticisms of the methodology of Freedom House. Archbishop also a short article on Sole 24 Ore, the newspaper's economic Confindustria directed by Gianni Riotta. In this case, the article is characterized by an opening overly timid, bordering on the collaboration: "2008 has seen the decline in press freedom worldwide, as well as countries with a consolidated democracy such as Italy (the only one in Europe) and Israel has imposed new limits to the media. " It is not, that is, as the reader might conclude from the report, the control of a master on the information of the country, at the mercy for the rest of fascists and mafiosi. No: it is the choice of a "consolidated democracy" that he wanted to equip its average of stimulating "new limits". In short, they were not expecting another year: no one was more than all that press freedom.
